Deluxe Camping... at a cost
If you're looking for a high-class campground with near-perfect amenities to spend a quiet time off and are willing to pay (almost) anything to get it, the Apple Island resort is very hard to beat.
The swimming pool, washrooms and campground store are without doubt amongst the finest we've seen. The staff are extremely helpful and nice.
The downside? Our site was $80 per day - and it didn't have lakeview, which would have cost us an additional $40 per day. You want to stay 2 hours after checkout? They'll charge you an additional $20. You want firewood? $5 will get you the smallest pack we've seen to date.
With such tariff, the target market is obviously wealthy retired couples with 35ft + motorhomes. In fact, the nicest likeview lots are strictly reserved to them.
Overall we're happy we went to Apple Resort at least once to see what it has to offer. But although we can afford it, we don't feel we need to pay that kind of cash to enjoy a weekend in our 15-ft camping trailer.
