Not with small kids...lesson learned.

Overall, the campground was amazingly beautiful. Very unique and charming. Staff and facilities were really great. Our family goes camping with our three small children but this was our first time at this site. We won't be able to return until they're quite a bit older. The bridge was not safe for kids to be walking across. They could have easily fallen through the makeshift siding. This made the entire trip pretty stressful. Also trying to lug supplies back and forth was somewhat complicated, as it was extremely possible to roll the handcart right off the sides of the bridge. There is a construction site type of plastic netting that is tied down in a few spots along the bridge with zip ties. In between the large spaces the netting just flapped in the breeze, with plenty of room for anything to fall through.
The site is beautiful, the river is gorgeous and there were rafters floating by all day. At night the river sounds are so nice to lay and listen to. We would most likely return, sans children the next time. The bridge was just too much for this mama to handle with the kids and all. IT was not a safe camping situation for small kiddos. I wish I would had known this before we went camping.

Meet in the middle

Each year, my husband meet up with his brother and sister-in-law for a week of hiking and brewery tours. This year Sweetwater River Ranch provided the perfect location. It was quiet, accommodated two tents/4 adults for an excellent price and offered all the amenities we needed (full bathrooms, privacy, ice/corner store). While it sits on the highway, the road was quiet at night and the river did a great job of covering whatever noise there might have been. The tent sites easily accommodated our 2 4-person tents. The service was great - very helpful and the bathrooms were always clean. We'd definitely stay here again.

This is a great campground. Most of the tent sites are on the other side of the river so it makes it a unique experience. The campground has a nice backdrop of mountains to look at. You do have to walk back and forth across a foot bridge if you want to use the facilities but camping right next to the river was worth it!!! The owners and staff were very friendly. We would highly recommend this campground.

So we figured we would take the kids on a last minute trip. We were tired of the Colorado State Parks (as awesome as they are) so took a chance on this one. The availability was there, the price was right, so we set out on a one-nighter.
The area is beautiful, not far from the Royal Gorge, but the facility leaves a bit to be desired. We have a 30 ft trailer, and had difficulty "fitting" in the site. The amenities (picnic table, etc) are on the wrong side of the site (meaning, if you pull through logically, your door will be on the opposite side of the picnic table, and the sewer/electrical/water would be right outside of your door). Bad mojo.
Also, the site was pretty small. Thank God there was nobody in the "riverfront" site in front of us, because I have no idea how we would've hooked up and left. As it was, I still had to back out (neat trick with a trailer and limited room).
The road noise from Hwy 50 is horrible! Lots of beer drinking at 10:00 am, which is ok if you're a frat boy, but not so cool with a young family.
Overall, if you find yourself on Hwy 50 between Canon City and Salida and need a place to stay, this might work. Otherwise, keep driving.
